Denture Care Tips

Caring for your dentures properly is very important for both the health of your mouth and for your dentures. We've given you some tips on how to take care of dentures, however, if you cannot find what you want to know about caring for your dentures, please contact us for advice on caring for dentures.

Handle your dentures with care

At The Denture Studio we provide our patients with new dentures that are constructed from a high impact resistant plastic, which reduces the chances of your dentures breaking if you drop them. However, your dentures are still breakable, so always clean your dentures over a bowl of water or a folded towel in case you drop them. Be careful not to bend or damage any of the metal clasps or attachments that may be part of your dentures.

Denture Care Cleaning your Dentures

Please clean your dentures at least once a day to remove food and plaque. If you don’t, plaque and bacteria can form on them leading to oral health problems. Cleaning your dentures regularly will also help prevent permanent stains forming on your dentures. You should brush your dentures every day using a soft bristled toothbrush or denture brush using either a denture cream or denture toothpaste, but not regular toothpaste. If you are going to use a denture cleaning tablet or solution, always follow the manufacturer's instructions for use and do not use boiling water.

Caring for dentures when you are not wearing your dentures

Whenever you are not wearing your dentures, please remember to store them in a small amount of cold water to stop them from drying out and warping. Please do not place your dentures in hot water, as this will damage them. Always keep your dentures out of reach from children and pets; kids love to play with them and dogs love to chew them up.

Adjusting or repairing your dentures

Never attempt to adjust your dentures or repair your dentures yourself. Do not try and bend or alter any metal clasps or attachments that may be part of your dentures. Instead, seek advice of a dental professional who is qualified to take care of your dentures and who can make any necessary adjustments to them. Please do not try and use any home denture repair kits or any 'do-it-yourself' denture repair kits. Using these types of denture repair kits can permanently damage your dentures. If you have a broken denture or a cracked denture, or if you dentures need repairing, please seek the advice of a qualified dental professional who can care for your dentures properly.
